Because of the lives we live and the things we do, we sometime forget (or take a casual acknowledgement) that Allah (i.e. God) still exist and should always be in our thoughts. It’s only when tragedy strikes when His reality is put in the forefront of our lives as a counter reaction.

On January 2nd, 2023, the second day of the New Year, Buffalo Bills’ safety Damar Hamlin is in critical condition after collapsing on the field during Monday night’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

The team says, “Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest following a hit in our game versus the Bengals. His heartbeat was restored on the field and he was transferred to the UC Medical Center for further testing and treatment. He is currently sedated and listed in critical condition.”

The eerie and heartbreaking scene that unfolded on the field, in the aftermath of Damar Hamlin‘s collapse during Monday night’s game, presented a nearly unprecedented scenario for media all over the country. In a surreal scene, bouncing between broadcast crews and a subdued game day studio set, networks prepared themselves to cover one of the season’s biggest games to only suddenly find themselves covering a medical calamity. This unexpected event caught everyone stunned and off-guard.

Tragic but real! However, if we put the emphasis on what’s really important, what should be taken from this tragic event is that Allah (i.e. God) should always come first.

An Islamic observation…

A Christian observation…

Allah (i.e. God) is greater than anything and anyone! We must make Him the focus of our lives and give more importance to the things that He has asked us to do, than what we want to do. We must always put Allah first!

We should also understand that to be successful in life we must give importance to prayer, not only when we want something from Him or when tragedy strikes. Just think about that before things go wrong!
