What Can Life Be Like If We All Work Together?
Today’s America is one of the most religiously diverse societies in history. Look around you and you’ll see people with different histories, values, and beliefs. Different ideas of what justice is or why we’re here in the first place. We’re a nation made up of people with different truths interacting together.
This diversity isn’t a good or bad thing on its own. It’s just a fact. Oftentimes that fact is at the root of tension, conflict, and tragically, violence. Sadly, we’ve seen this play out on the news and in our own communities all too often.
However, we can choose to actively engage that diversity towards positive ends. Interfaith and/or multi-faith cooperation can create collective social achievements, one of this country’s founding ideals. we can learn from this example…
Interfaith interaction and dialogue shouldn’t be approached with skepticism or fear. It truly should be embraced for the sake of universal understanding and peace.
On behalf of Imam Mekye and all of us involved with the Interfaith Library, we are so heartened that people are reading, sharing and joining us in this journey. We all share the belief that our respective faiths are intended to make us the best people possible seeing all human beings as made in the image of the Divine Creator and intended to join hands and hearts and work together to heal our very fractured world. Please do share your experiences with others and the more we can learn about and with each other, the less resonance destructive and hurtful statements will have on us. Let us all continue to work together to build bridges that join and not fences that divide, continuing to celebrate what we share and honor and respect our acknowledged differences in approach and belief. With wishes to our Christian brothers and sisters for a meaningful holiday season and a healing and healthy 2022 to all.
