Allah does not obligate anyone beyond his capacity. For him is what he has earned, and on him what he has incurred. “Our Lord, do not hold us accountable, if we forget or make a mistake, and Lord, do not place on us such a burden as You have placed on those before us, and Lord, do not make us bear a burden for which we have no strength. And pardon us, and grant us forgiveness, and have mercy on us. You are our Lord. So then help us against the disbelieving people.”
Before falling down that “slope”, just take a deep breath and think for a moment is this punsihment? or is this just ALLAH testing your patience? ALLAH states
in Surat Al-Ankabut:
أَحَسِبَ النَّاسُ أَنْ يُتْرَكُوا أَنْ يَقُولُوا آمَنَّا وَهُمْ لَا يُفْتَنُونَ
“Do people think that they will be left alone because they say: ‘We believe,’ and will not be tested?” (Qur’an, 29:2)
Trials and tribulations are a part of life but that doesn’t make them easy. We still grieve — but how could we not? We are, after all, a very emotional creation. So how do we cope with adversity?
There are many ayat in the Qur’an that talk about different mechanisms of coping such as patience, faith, prayer and acceptance. But what I find the most profound and the most comforting is what Allah says in Surat Al-Baqarah:
لَا يُكَلِّفُ اللَّهُ نَفْسًا إِلَّا وُسْعَهَا
“Allah does not burden a soul beyond that it can bear…” (Qur’an, 2:286).
So, if we recognize this truth, we should simply stand back and take a good look at the entire picture. I believe one would then realize that what we’d have, when faced by a tragedy, is a choice. Would we go through the stages of grief, denying Allah’s destiny or the wisdom of His plan for us? Or would we realize that what we are going through is something we know we can handle because we are His best creation!
