A Divine Intersection: The Metaphorical Heart in My Hand

As the morning sun cast its first golden rays across the cityscape, I found myself navigating the familiar route to the pharmacy. My steps, once light with the vibrance of health, now carried the weight of my recent tribulations. The medication I was destined to retrieve, Warfarin, had become a constant in my life—a blood thinner tasked with managing the risk of blood clots in a body besieged by cardiomyopathy and congestive heart failure. This drug, emblematic of my struggle, was a daily reminder of the fragility of life and the tenacity of the human spirit.

Amidst the rhythm of my journey, serendipity guided my gaze to a sanctuary that seemed to emerge from the very essence of my thoughts: “A Heart For God International Ministries.” The name itself, a poignant echo of my current battle, beckoned me with an allure that was both comforting and mysterious. With an LVAD (Left Ventricular Assist Device) as my steadfast companion, keeping the rhythm of life flowing through me, I felt the metaphorical heart in my hand pulse with a renewed sense of purpose as I crossed the threshold of possibility.

Inside, the warmth of human connection greeted me in the form of the proprietor, a woman whose life was intertwined with the very essence of the ministry she served. As I shared the narrative of my LVAD—the lifeline that stood between me and the abyss—I spoke of my dance with mortality and how I teetered on the precipice of life and death. The church, with its inviting name and its keeper of faith, seemed like a divine whisper in a world that had become deafeningly silent in the face of my suffering.

My story unfolded like a sacred scroll before her, the chapters of my life laid bare: the unexpected onslaught of heart disease, the emotional maelstrom that followed, and the profound sense of abandonment I grappled with as I questioned the silence of the God I had served so fervently through the Interfaith Library. Yet, in this confessional, I found no judgment—only the empathetic ear of one who understood the language of loss and the resilience of faith.

As I recounted the stark contrast between the doctor at UNC who had resigned me to my fate and the Duke University savior who saw the worth of my continued existence, our hearts converged in a moment of transcendent clarity. It was a testament to the power of human compassion and the indomitable will to advocate for life against the odds.

In that sacred space, surrounded by books and the echoes of prayer, I realized that my heart, though medically supported by wires and machinery, was sustained by something far more powerful: a divine presence that had not forsaken me but had led me to this very moment. The ministry’s name, “A Heart For God,” was not merely a sign above a door but a testament to the journey of every believer who has felt the tender touch of the divine in their darkest hour.

This encounter, unexpected yet fated, was a reminder that we are vessels of a greater story being written by the hand of the Almighty. It is a narrative filled with moments of grace that often go unnoticed, where the metaphorical heart in our hands beats not solely by human design but by the rhythm of divine love and intention.

Today, I stand with a heart fortified not by muscle and sinew but by the power of shared testimony and the undeniable evidence of God’s presence in our lives. May this story be a beacon to all who have felt the tremor of fear in the face of adversity, and may it affirm that we are indeed near and dear to Him. For even when we feel abandoned, we must remember that our hearts—literal and metaphorical—are always held in the omnipotent hand of God.

In the book of Jeremiah 29:11, it is written, “For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” This scripture resonates with the idea of divine predestination, where God’s perfect Will guides our paths towards a greater purpose.

Turning to the Qur’an, we find solace in Surah Al-An’am 6:59, “With Him are the keys of the unseen; none knows them except Him. And He knows what is on the land and in the sea. Not a leaf falls but that He knows it.” This verse reminds us of God’s omniscience and control over all aspects of existence.

Thus, we are reminded that God’s wisdom surpasses our limited understanding. Even in the face of adversity, there is a silver lining waiting to be discovered—a testament to the boundless mercy and love of the Divine.

Let us take comfort in the knowledge that God is All-Knowing, and our trials are but a single thread in the intricate masterpiece of His divine plan for us. May we embrace every twist and turn with patience and faith, knowing that each step brings us closer to the fulfillment of His ultimate design.
